Banff Ice Skating
Along with many other recreational activities, the Banff Centre has the town's only indoor skating rink. Skating, drop-in hockey and curling are available at varying hours. Public skating hours are Tuesday from 11:45am to 3pm, Wednesday from 11:45am to 1:15pm and Friday from 1:15pm to 3pm.
In the wintertime, nothing beats skating outside in the fresh air and in Banff, there are several locations. There is an outdoor rink at the Fairmont Hot Springs near the Waldhaus Restaurant with views of the majestic hotel. From downtown, there are several spots cleared on the Bow River. Or experience the thrill of skating on a lake that has been completely frozen over. There is often skating available at Lake Minnewanka, Two Jack Lake and Johnson Lake where mountain views are breathtaking and glimpses of fish under the ice possible. While skating on a lake can be exhilarating, cautions must be taken to skate only in designated areas and only when temperatures are cold enough. Check with Parks Canada beforehand.
